About Us

The Centre for Youth Ministry began life in the early 1990s in order to create and provide training and resources in Christian Youth Work. A formal partnership was created in 1996 which is currently made up of:

  • African & Caribbean Evangelical Alliance
  • Bristol Baptist College
  • Frontier Youth Trust
  • Oxford Youth Works
  • Ridley Hall Theological College
  • St John's Nottingham
  • Youth for Christ

These seven agencies are the trustees of the Centre for Youth Ministry (CYM) which is a company limited by guarantee (No. 3988613) and a registered charity (No.1081144).

In September 1998 the first full-time three year professionally-qualifying degree course to train people for Christian Youth Work was established. Validated by Oxford Brookes University and professionally endorsed by the National Youth Agency, this degree is now the largest full-time Youth & Community Work training course in the country and possibly the largest full-time Christian Youth Ministry training course in the world.

Centre for Youth Ministry endorses A New Ten Commandments for Youth Work produced by the Chair of the National Youth Agency 2007.

It has always been the intention of the trustees that there should be a range of training courses available from occasional open learning modules through to masters and other higher degrees.
