Postgraduate

MASTER OF ARTS DEGREES

CYM's two Master of Arts degrees are designed for people already in employment who wish to undertake Postgraduate Studies on a part-time route, usually over three years. Students will normally have substantial experience in an appropriate professional field and be able to provide evidence of an ability to study at MA level.

The MA in Youth & Community Work and Applied Theology is JNC endorsed and covers such topics as 'Reflective Practice', 'Human Development', Contextual Youth Work' and 'Management'.

The MA in Reflective Practice and Applied Theology allows choice from such topics as 'Leadership', 'Doctrine in Practice', 'Mission-Shaped Practice', 'Management', 'Spirituality' and many more.

Both MA degrees are taught through two 4-day study blocks, regional seminar groups, private study and email contact with tutors. Each Module is assessed by the equivalent of a 7,500 word assignment and both degrees culminate in the writing of a dissertation on a subject of the student's choice.

Students can begin their MA studies in either September or March, depending on spaces available.

Our Master of Arts degree courses are validated by the University of Gloucestershire.

HOW TO APPLY
All applicants should complete an
Application Form. Notes for Employers and Volunteer Placements provide information for both Applicants and their Main Fieldwork Agency. References Forms should be sent to your 3 referees ASAP, however, you do not need to wait for these to be returned before sending in your completed application form.

We encourage students from a wide variety of backgrounds to consider joining the course. Applicants who do not meet the criteria stated below will be assessed individually and required to provide alternative evidence of their ability to study at this level.

Youth & Community Work applicants will usually hold a BA Honours degree at 2:1 or above and have at least three years experience in youth work. Three references will be taken (personal, employers, and experience in youth work) and candidates must have a current Access NI, CRB enhanced disclosure or ISA Registration to enrol. Academic entrance with respect to accredited prior learning is possible – candidates will be expected to demonstrate this through CV and a short assignment.

Reflective Practice applicants will usually hold a BA Honours degree at 2:1 or above and have at least three years experience of a form of professional practice in a faith-based connect (youth work, chaplaincy or ministry). Three references will be taken (personal, employers, and professional practice experience). Academic entrance with respect to accredited prior learning is possible – candidates will be expected to demonstrate this through CV and a short assignment.
