Schools Work

Centre for Youth Ministry is in the process of consultation with a view to developing modules, both within Engage! and within the degree programmes around working in schools. These modules would be available either for those on the programmes, or for those who simply wish to pick up one or two modules as part of their personal training and development.

-Further Education Level Module (Engage!)
We are planning to develop a module for those who have no experience of working with schools and may be about engage on a year-out, or with an organisation/ a church who want the worker to link with local schools. "Working in Schools" would have the standard format of: 5 hours contact teaching 10 hours private study 15 hours of work in schools and 3 hours with a mentor learning from the experience.

-Higher Education Modules
The plan is to deliver two modules which could be accessed either by those going into youth work jobs from the BA Honours Degree in Youth & Community Work and Applied Theology, or a stand alone modules by those who want some form of Continuing Professional Development. CYM will be proposing these for validation by Oxford Brookes University at Basic Level (HE Level 1, 15 CAT points each).
The two modules will be: Schools work in formal settings (assemblies, lessons, legal issues, philosophy of education, learning styles etc.) Schools work in informal settings (lunch-times, inclusion units, clubs, chaplaincy, etc) Each module would be 150 learning hours 30 hours contact teaching 40 hours placement learning in school 80 hours private study.
